My Journey at Music For Girls Initiative Africa.
Hannah Aba Yankson.
Young girls are vulnerable and they need people who can guide them, and lead them through the right path. Instead of them seeking advice from their friends who might just lead them the wrong way or make fun of them, let there be someone who leads them through a successful journey of life.
I am Hannah Aba Yankson. As young as I was, I had many distractions but I wanted to be successful. The founder of Music for girls Initiative Africa (MFG); Esther Michael Emeh was one TV presenter I admired so much and wanted to be so close to her. I had the opportunity to see her for the first time when she went to my school; St. Joseph’s Secondary School (Convent) to talk about her organization. I couldn’t get my eyes off her and I found myself smiling so deeply. Immediately after her interaction with the girls, I rushed to her and took her phone number. I was told that her organization always meets on Saturdays and I couldn’t miss the meeting on Saturday since the time was communicated to me.
I went there with so much passion to learn because, in MFG, we are taught how to be creative and be a leader as different successful personalities are invited to inspire the girls with their stories. I was more motivated in this organization and I get to learn so many things. Every one became my family. I was loved and I am still loved. The girls are my sisters and we have a safe space where we discuss every challenge girls are faced.
In MFG, I was allowed to host events, display my talents (acting and public speaking), go on TV shows, Host TV shows, sing and the list goes on. I get to know my power, rights, values, and potential as a woman. I was trained not to take the back sit but always be in the spotlight because I am a star.
Today, I am a diploma holder of Mass Communication and currently an honors student in the same course at Fourah Bay College. Those TV shows I used to host at MFG shaped me and I can proudly say; I am a TV presenter, reporter, and scriptwriter at the Africa Young Voices Media Empire (AYV) and also a red carpet host and an event host.
The young lady who was distracted got to know that education is power and as a woman, you need the power to change the world. If you are a young girl out there make use of the opportunity and be a part of MFG. I am a product of MFG and I will forever be grateful for the love, care, knowledge, and morals that impacted me. I am a superwoman and MFG made me!
